Cleaning Plaster Walls Properly
If your home has plaster walls, you need to make sure that you clean them regularly. This would keep the walls in good condition as well as retain their fresh appearance. To this end, here is a short guide on how you can clean your plaster walls.
Scrub the surface of the walls using either a brush or a damp piece of cloth so you can make sure that the wall would have an even finish. Plaster walls with uneven surfaces can be difficult to clean; therefore it is important to make the surface as smooth as possible. Next, mix a strong solution of TSP or tri-sodium phosphate with some water. If you do not wish to use water, you can substitute a non-phosphate chemical for it. Once you have your solution ready, use a non-abrasive scrub or a sponge to rub the mixture onto the parts of the wall which require cleaning. The wall surface will merely absorb the water while any dirt and stains will be eliminated by the TSP.
Afterwards, allow the wall to dry for a few hours. Then, use a milder solution of TSP and scrub the surface once more using a soft cloth in order to remove any loose dirt. Make certain that you do not scrape off this loose dirt since doing so can damage the surface of the wall. Finally, use a colourless or invisible spray paint to fill out the wall's porous surface so that it will stay clean. Do the entire process again from time to time to maintain the wall's appearance.
